Roll Out the Red Carpet

In every co-author team, there’s a creative “right brain” thinker and a detail-oriented “left brain” thinker.

Okay, I have no idea if this is true of other writing teams, but it’s true of ours.

The left brain half of this team worries about grammar, punctuation, theme development and schedules. That half, better known as the dull half, is me. (And in case you’re wondering, I prefer “meticulous” to “anal.”)

The right brain (i.e., fun) half of the team is Yvonne Collins. Energetic and arty, she’s always busy painting or pasting or photographing. Point to something cool in Yvonne’s house and she’s all “I made that. I had an hour kill.”

Something tells me her latest project took more than an hour. Yvonne has been suspiciously quiet for the past month and now I know why. After learning how to use iMovie, she created the promotional book trailers you can now view from our website and myspace pages.

The first trailer profiles The New and Improved Vivien Leigh Reid: Diva in Control. Released in February, this is part three of our series about an aspiring actor. Click on the warthog to watch the trailer. What do warthogs have to do with Leigh Reid’s efforts to get back on top in the film biz after her last—disastrous—trip to L.A., you ask? Come on, everyone knows Hollywood’s a jungle!

The second trailer profiles The Black Sheep, which comes out on May 1, 2007. It’s about a conservative Manhattan girl who swaps families as part of a reality TV show and spends a summer with California hippies. Click on the photo of kelp to check it out. (That’s actual California kelp, which Yvonne shot during our research trip to Monterey last year).

Our first teen reviewer has pronounced The Black Sheep trailer “really good” and “suspenseful.”

Yvonne promises to disclose more about her film-making process in future blogs. I don’t understand half the terminology she’s throwing around these days. In fact, she’s probably making up words to freak out the left brain half of this duo. But whatever. I can’t wait to hear about the day she “directed” her husband’s recording of the voiceovers. The good news? They’re still married.

Anyway, I think you’ll agree that the decade Yvonne spent on the camera crew of feature films hasn’t gone amiss.

If they create an Academy Awards category for book trailers, we’re totally in.

I’m already choosing a dress just in case. You can’t start too early.

Hi there, Ellesquared! Thanks for letting us know you enjoyed "Diva 3." We haven't planned a fourth, but we do have another book coming out next month: The Black Sheep. I'm sure you'd enjoy it, too. Let us know!
